Kim Clijsters entered the U.S. Open as an unseeded wild card entry and had played in only a few tournaments before arriving at Flushing Meadows, Clijsters had performed well, especially against top 20 players. Clijsters had to get through both Williams sisters as well as two other top 20 seeded players. After taking a two-and-a-half year baby break, Belgian tennis ace Kim Clijsters  has capped an incredible comeback to competitive tennis by winning her second US Open title. Clijsters is 26 years old, not that young by tennis’ standards but still young enough to make it back to the top. However, going back to professional tennis after childbirth is not easy.

Cradling the US Open trophy in one arm and 18-month-old daughter Jada Ella in the other, Clijsters says she's proud if she's provided a message for mothers the world around with her astonishing feat in New York.Kim Clijsters, known for being one of the nicest players on tour, held her trophy in one hand and her daughter, Jada, in the other.Four years after Clijsters won her first and only grand slam tournament at the U.S. Open, she was back to reclaim her glory with husband and daughter in tow.

After her win, the first for a mother at a Grand Slam event in 29 years, Kim said,

“I really believe anything is possible but it is a family affair. I also need help from family and people around me but it’s a great feeling to know that I can combine the sport that I love but also be a mum as well — it’s great.”

Venus Williams and Serena Williams are professional tennis players and sisters who have played numerous times in grand slam finals.Venus and Serena Williams followed different paths to set up a family duel again at the Wimbledon.

Serena, 27, had the far tougher road, fighting off match point against Russia's Elena Dementieva before prevailing, 6-7 (7-4), 7-5, 8-6, in a match that lasted 2 hours 49 minutes.

Venus, 29, wasn't tested on any level by Dinara Safina, routing the reigning world No. 1 and top seed, 6-1, 6-0, in 51 minutes. The match was over as soon as it started, with the Russian painfully ill at ease on the grass that only accentuates Venus's rare power and pace.

Saurav Ganguly Biography
Saurav Chandidas Ganguly (first name also spelt Sourav) (born 8 July 1972, in Calcutta, West Bengal) is the captain of Indian national cricket team. He is ambidextrous, a left-handed batsman and a right-handed bowler.

He made his ODI debut in 1992 but his talent was noticed in India's 1996 tour of England when he scored centuries in both innings of his debut test match (an third test of the series). He became only the third cricketer ever to score a century in his first two innings after Lawrence Rowe and Alvin Kallicharan. He scored 183 against Sri Lanka at Taunton in the 1999 cricket World Cup, the highest by an Indian in World Cup cricket.

His record is good both in test and one-day cricket: 11 centuries in tests and 22 in one-dayers at an average of around 42 in both. He has scored over 9,000 runs in one-dayers. At the first class level as well as in List A limited overs cricket, he has scored over 10,000 runs with 19 first class centuries. (He has scored more centuries at the international level than in domestic cricket.) He scored 7 ODI centuries in the year 2000.

With Sachin Tendulkar, he formed what was arguably the most successful opening pair ever in one-day cricket. This pair has the highest number of century partnership (16) for the first wicket. They together have scored 5621 runs at an average of 49.30. His position as opener has now been replaced by Virender Sehwag. He is known for hitting the "big sixes". He is also a useful extra bowler as a medium pacer.

Ganguly's record as captain is outstanding. Numerically, he has more test wins to his credit than any other Indian captain. He is the only Indian Captian to win both the One Day and Test Series in Pakistan Soil. More importantly, he has been credited with transforming the Indian players into a vibrant team with an excellent team spirit.

On the other hand, he is a temperamental player and has often attracted controversy. He is religious, and, some commentators have suggested, also superstitious. It appears that he makes various decisions — some trivial, such as the number on his jersey, and others important, such as batting position — based on numerological considerations.

Sachin Tendulkar, born Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar, (dob: April 24, 1973) is a living cricket legend and member of the Indian cricket team since 1989. He made his international debut against Pakistan in 1989 at the age of 16. He is widely regarded as one of the best batsmen of all time and possibly the greatest of his era. Sir Donald Bradman, the Australian great said of Sachin Tendulkar, "He reminds me of myself". Born in Mumbai (formerly Bombay) into a middle class family, Sachin Tendulkar was named after his family's favorite musician Sachin Dev Burman. He played his first international match against Pakistan in Karachi facing up to the likes of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis. He scored just 15 runs and was bowled by Waqar Younis, who also made his debut in that match. It was an innings very different from how the rest of his career went. He followed it up with his maiden test fifty a few days later at Faisalabad. However he could not get a century in that series. His One-day International (ODI) debut on December 18 was equally disappointing where he was dismissed without scoring a run again by Waqar Younis. The series was followed by a non-descript tour of New Zealand in which he did not make remarkable contribution. In the tour of England in 1990 he scored his maiden test century but the other scores were not remarkable. It was in the 1991/1992 tour of Australia that he made his mark as a remarkable batsman. He has been man of the match 11 times in test matches and Man of the Series twice, both times in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. His maiden ODI century came on September 9, 1994 against Australia in Sri Lanka at Colombo. He was named by Wisden as one of the Cricketers of the Year 1997 which was the first calendar year in which he scored a 1000 test runs. He repeated the feat in 1999, 2001 and 2002.

Olympic champion Barbora Spotakova of the Czech Republic broke the women's javelin world record at the World Athletics Final on Saturday.

"I was thinking about how I can throw a personal best today, I never really thought about the world record," Spotakova said, "I was really shocked. I didn't expect it. It's just unbelievable."

The Czech who won the Olympic gold in Beijing with her previous best of 71.42, made 72.28 meters in her first throw to break the world mark of 71.70 set by Osleidys Menendez of Cuba at the 2005 world championships in Helsinki.

Spotakova, also world champion, will receive a 100,000 U. S. dollars bonus for the record.
